Born in Australia and now based in Germany, baritone Andrew Finden continues to garner significant acclaim for the âanimated presenceâ (Opera Today) and ânobilityâ (Financial Times) of his performances. His recent portrayal of Marcello (La bohĂšme) for Londonâs Opera Holland Park was hailed by Culture Whisper as âfull of character and musicalityâ.
As an ensemble member of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe from 2011-2015, Andrewâs roles included Marullo (Rigoletto), MoralĂšs (Carmen), Cristiano (Un ballo in maschera), Clock/Cat (Lâenfant et les SortilĂšges), Schtschelkalow (Boris Godunov) and, as part of the International HĂ€ndel-Festspiele Karlsruhe, Berardo (Riccardo Primo) and Clito (Alessandro), the latter of which can be heard in a live recording released on Pan Classics.
Particular highlights of Andrewâs seasons in Karlsruhe have included Dr Falke (Die Fledermaus), Ned Keene in Christopher Aldenâs acclaimed production of Peter Grimes, Il Conte Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Schaunard (La bohĂšme), Oberthal (Le prophĂšte), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Tadeusz in the German premiĂšre of Weinbergâs The Passenger, Konrad Nachtigall in Tobias Kratzerâs FAUST Award-nominated Die Meistersinger von NĂŒrnberg, and Oreste in IphigĂ©nie en Tauride, a performance for which Opernnetz singled Andrew out as âundoubtedly the highlightâ.
Other operatic engagements include Il Conte Almaviva, Dr Falke, MoralĂšs, Don Alvaro (Il viaggio a Reims), Yamadori (Madama Butterfly) and Il Conte (Emilia di Liverpool) for Staatstheater NĂŒrnberg, Schaunard for Longborough Festival Opera, Mr Brooke in Adamoâs Little Women for the International Vocal Arts Institute, Tel Aviv, and Daniello (Jonny spielt auf) for Theater Hagen, where the 2016/17 season Andrew performed Mozartâs Figaro, Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor) and Maik in the world premiere of Ludger Vollmerâs operatic adaption of Tschick.
As a concert soloist, Andrew has appeared at the Barbican with the London Symphony Orchestra in Alisdair Nicholsonâs Two Sisters, A Rose, A Flood and Snow, the London Handel Festival in Messiah, the New Israeli Opera, the Sydney Symphony, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg and with the All Soulsâ Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall.
Conductors Andrew has collaborated with include Richard Bonynge, Justin Brown, Laurence Cummings, Paul Goodwin, Michael Hofstetter, Marko Letonja, Florian Ludwig, Oksana Lyniv, Nicholas Kok, Imre PallĂł, and Christoph Perick.
A graduate of the Opera Course of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Andrew was awarded the Harold Rosenthal Prize.
Andrew is a Samling Scholar, a former Britten-Pears Young Artist and a recipient the Nelly Apt Scholarship, the Joyce Campbell Lloyd Scholarship and a Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship. He has participated in masterclasses with such artists as John Mark Ainsley, Olaf BÀr, Matthias Goerne, HÄkan HagegÄrd, and Thomas Hampson.
Andrewâs plans for 2017/18 include Marco (Gianni Schicchi) for Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Oberthal for Deutsche Oper Berlin and Lord Rochefort (Anna Bolena) for Staatstheater Karlsruhe.

In diesen und anderen Partien war er auch am Staatstheater NĂŒrnberg, bei der Longborough Festival Opera, beim International Vocal Arts Institute, Tel Aviv, zu hören. Am Theater Hagen war er Daniello in Kreneks JONNY SPIELT AUF, Graf Almaviva / DIE HOCHZEIT DES FIGARO, Enrico / LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR und Maik in der UrauffĂŒhrung von Ludger Vollmers Vertonung des Erfolgsromans von Wolfgang Herrndorf TSCHICK.
Auf dem Konzertpodium war der Bariton Gast des London Symphony Orchestra in Alasdair Nicholsons TWO SISTERS, A ROSE, A FLOOD AND SNOW, beim London Handel Festival, bei der New Israeli Opera, beim Sydney Symphony, beim Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg und in der Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow unter Dirigenten wie Richard Bonynge, Justin Brown, Laurence Cummings, Paul Goodwin, Michael Hofstetter, Marko Letonja, Florian Ludwig, Oksana Lyniv, Nicholas Kok, Imre PallĂł, und Christoph Prick.
An der Deutschen Oper Berlin gibt er als Oberthal in der Neuproduktion von DER PROPHET sein HausdebĂŒt am 4. Januar 2018.
